Chittagong: Minister without portfolio and member of the Advisory Council of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Suranjit Sengupta on Saturday said the people of the country are not with BNP-Jamaat and Hefajat as the parties are jointly unleashing attacks across the country.

"People have understood that they are challenging the core existence of the country for their political gain; so people are now not with them and so will be in future", he added.

The minister commented this while addressing a roundtable discussion on "Communal harmony and present political context" at Chittagong Circuit House this morning.

'Sheikh Rasel Memorial Social Welfare Organization' arranged the roundtable discussion.

Addressing the roundtable as the chief guest, Suranjit Sengupta said threatening the minority people by attacking them and torching their places worships and houses for foiling the war crimes trial will not bring about any benefit.

"Rather, it is destroying the strength of the communal forces", he said adding that now it is not possible to create any artificial communal riot and similarly it is impossible to go to the state power through any unconstitutional means.

He also urged the minority people to stand upright without depending on others.

Addressing the roundtable as the chief discussant, Information Minister Hasanul Hoque Innu said there is no scope to compromise with communalism and militancy for the sake of safe and meaningful democracy.

"Now communalism and militancy is a great barrier for the politics and democracy ", he added.

Terming Jamaat as the patron of communalism and militancy, the information minister alleged that Jamaat-e-Islam is leading the communalism and militancy and has no more been a political party; rather it has become an armed militant organisation.

"If they are given opportunity to work, they will turn the country into a bloody territory like Pakistan and Afghanistan; so all should be united to say goodbye to their politics", he commented.

Mainuddin Khan Badal MP and secretary general of the organization Syeda Razia Mostafa, among others, addressed it.
