Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) Monday gave 15-days timeframe to the 47 political parties, applied for enrollment, to fulfill their necessary conditions within the set deadline.

"The enrolment applications to the commission would be canceled if they (political parties) failed to fulfill the necessary conditions within the time fame," election commissioner M Shahnewaz told reporters quoting a decision in a meeting held at the commission's secretariat here.

The commission asked to the filed level officials to enquire about the required number of offices of two political parties- Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Front and Bangladesh Sangskrtik Mukti Jote-primarily selected for enrolment to the commission, he said.

The meeting has decided for holding elections for five new upazilas as well as by polls for some vacant posts including upazila chairmen and vice chairmen as the posts vacant due to resignations and discharge from duties.

On a query, the election commissioner said polling schedules for new upazilas and the by polls would be announced soon after discussion it with the local government ministry.
