Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on Thursday set July 14 for holding hearing on charge framing against Jamaat leader AKM Yusuf, accused of committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.

The second tribunal set the date accepting a time petition from Advocate Tajul Islam, counsel for Yusuf. Tajul in his petition said they need more time for the preparation. Prosecutor Hrishikesh Saha, who was present at the tribunal, did not raise any opposition.

On July 1, the trial of Yusuf was shifted to the ICT-2 from the ICT- 1, accepting a plea of the prosecution.

Earlier on June 23, the prosecution submitted a petition to the office of the ICT registrar, pleading for transferring the case for quick disposal citing trials under the second tribunal are far less than the first tribunal.

Yusuf, 84, the nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami was arrested on May 12, following an arrest warrant issued by the tribunal.

Earlier on May 8, the prosecution submitted the formal charge against this alleged founder of notorious 'Razakar Bahini', an auxiliary force to the Pakistani occupation army during the war, bringing 15 counts of crimes against humanity including genocide, murder, abduction, confinement, torture, etc.
