Dhaka: Awami League advisory council member Tofail Ahmed said, “As the recently completed four city corporation elections were conducted successfully without Army deployment, so there is no need for involving Army in Gazipur City Corporation election too. BNP will continue complaining that the election is not being held fairly until the results come out.”
He said this at a press conference at the AL president Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi on Saturday noon.
Tofail Ahmed said, “We thought, BNP might boycott the lectiong as they did in Narayanganj city corporation election.”
He also said, BNP’s demand to restore the caretaker government become illogical as the four city corporation elections were held in a free, fair and acceptable manner on June 15.
He said BNP demanded deployment of Army in silly matters but BNP repeatedly maligning the Army. They said after national election in 2008 that AL has gained power with the help of the Army. Recently they branded Reshma rescue mission from Savar building as a drama staged by the Army.
