Satkhira: A half-day hartal called by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the arrest of upazila Jammat Ameer Moslem Uddin, was observed in Kaliganj upazila of the district on Saturday.

No major incident was reported during the shutdown. No picketer was seen in the streets. Buses and trucks were seen out of the streets in the Upazila sadar.

Besides, Dhaka bound buses from Shymnagar and Satkhira could not use the route due to the shutdown that is set to continue till 2:00pm.

Police on Thursday arrested Upazila Jammat Ameer Moslem Uddin from near Kaliganj College area on charge of attacking Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and vandalising a police vehicle in the upazila on February 28.
