Dhaka: BNP is continuing its movement to bring back the party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman to Bangladesh with due respect, BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in London.

He also said the BNP senior vice chairman will return home holding his head high on completion of his treatment in London.

The BNP acting secretary general was speaking as chief guest at a reception to Koichar M Ahmed, General Secretary of the United Kingdom unit of the BNP, according to a report received in Dhaka on Thursday.

The former BNP leader and activists of Jogonnathpur upazila in Sylhet, now living in the United Kingdom, arranged the reception programme.

The last election results of the five city corporations helped unite the people in Bangladesh, Mirza Fakhrul said. He urged the expatriates to be united for the sake of democracy and the country.

He said the next national election in Bangladesh must be held under a caretaker government.

Congratulating the General Secretary of the newly-formed United Kingdom unit of BNP, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We hope his leadership will help strengthen the UK BNP.”

London Metropolitan Jobo Dal President Abul Hossain moderated the programme with Jogonnathpur Chatra Dal’s former general secretary Hossain Ahmed in the chair. UK BNP President Shayesta Chowdhury was also present there.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir left Dhaka for London on July 15 to attend a seminar on Democracy, Human Rights and Political Situation in Bangladesh, organised by the House of Lords of the British Parliament.
