Khagrachhari: An officer of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) was shot dead by assailants in Adarsha village area of Manikchhari upazila on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Alo Baran Chakma, 35, son of Sujiti Bikash Chakma. 

Alo Baran Chakma’s wife Sujata Chakma, 30, assistant field officer of BRDB, was also suffered bullet injury in the incident. She was admitted to Chittatong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

Sources said a group of armed assailants numbering seven to eight opened fire on Alo-Sujata couple when they were going to Lazmichhari at about 9:00am, leaving Alo dead on the spot.

Officer-in-charge of Manikchhari Police Station Keshab Chakrabarty said, “On information, police rushed to the spot to recover the body. But cause of the killing could not be ascertained.”
