Islamic University: At least 30 people, including 25 teachers, were injured as leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League Islamic University unit attacked the sit-in programme of agitating IU teachers on Monday morning.
At least 25 teachers of Islamic University suffered minor injuries when BCL activists attacked their peaceful sit-in programme organised by the university Teachers Association.
The attackers also hurled abusive words at the teachers and beat them up, leaving them injured.
A number of outsiders and several employees of the university reportedly took part in the attack, said campus sources quoting witnesses.
The campus sources said the IU Teachers’ Association was staging a sit-in programme demanding resignation of IU Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Treasurer at about 10:30am.
A group of Chhatra League activists and cadres led by its president Jahangir Hossain and general secretary Shamsuzzaman Tuhin attacked the sit-in programme of the agitating teachers that left 30 people, including some teachers and journalists, injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
