Sangsad Bhaban: Ruling party lawmakers on Wednesday welcomed the demand for imposing a ban the on politics of Jamaat-e-Islami, raised by young protesters at Shahbag Square.

They said Shahbag protesters' demand is justified as Jamaat-e-Islami had taken stand against country's War of Liberation in 1971 and for their the present ill activities across the country.

Like the last past three days, the lawmakers also Wednesday expressed their solidarity with the mass upsurge of Shahbag square and termed the youngsters protest as the lighthouse of the country's spirit.

The lawmakers said the trial of war crimes is the election pledge of the grand alliance government and the government must complete the trial in the soil of this country.

The mass sit-in protests, especially by the youths, at Shahbag Square continued for the ninth consecutive days on Wednesday demanding "death penalty" for 1971 war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah instead of the life term as handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal-2.

Lawmakers including Dipankar Talukder, Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury, Simin Hossain Rimi, Chaman Ara, Principle Shah Alam, Meraz Uddin Mollah, Begum Rawsan Ara Sathi, Nawab Ali Abbas Khan, Elias Mollah, Hafizuddin Ahmed, Nur Afroz Ali and Tajul Islam took part in the thanks giving motion for the President's address, given on the first day of this years' first session of the 9th parliament.

Chaman Ara termed the politics of Jammat-i-Islami an act of sedition and welcomed demand of the protesters that politics of Jamaat must be banned in the country.

As an inhabitant of Mirpur, Elias Ali said "I can't accept that Abdul Quader Mollah has got only life term sentence after being convicted of killing 344 people in a single village in Mirpur.

He urged the opposition BNP to express solidarity with Shahbag protesters by breaking alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami.

The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving an elaborated and authentic speech and said it (the speech) has listed various developments, accomplished by the present government in the last four years.

They said the country has achieved tremendous success in agriculture, education, power, information technology, social safety, infrastructure sectors and combating terrorism.

In the last four years, they said the government has been able to maintain high economic growth despite global economic meltdown.

Dipankar Talukder said the government is committed to implementing the CHT peace accord. "The accord has 72 clauses whereas we have already implemented 48 clauses fully, 15 clauses partly and 9 clauses are under implementation," he said.

He said huge development projects worth Taka 1,277 crore have been implemented in the CHT in last four years. "Huge development of the CHT is the fruit of peace accord, signed during the previous Awami League government," Talukder said.

Mahmudus Samad Chowdhury said the export earning of the country has increased 80 percent in the last four years.

He criticized BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her article in the Washington Times as she urged the US to cancel GSP facilities for Bangladesh.
