Rangpur: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at a border coordination meeting Wednesday agreed to stop killings on the common borders between the two neighbouring countries, official sources said.
The agreement was reached at the hour-long meeting between Director General of BGB and Inspector General of BSF at Fulbari BSF camp inside Indian Territory opposite to Banglabandha zero point under Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh.
Director General of BGB Major General Aziz Ahmmed led the Bangladesh delegation while BSF Inspector General of North Bengal Frontiers Sree S K Sood led the Indian delegation in the meeting that ended this late afternoon.
Commander of Northwest Region of BGB Brigadier General Feroz Rahim, Rangpur Sector Commander Colonel Neyamul Islam Fatemi and Commanding Officer of Panchagarh 18 BGB Battalion Lt Col Zakir Hossain assisted the BGB Director General.
On the otherhand, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Shiliguri BSF Sector Sree R A Khan and DIG of North Bengal Frontiers Sree S K Gulia assisted the BSF delegation chief in the meeting.
The meeting discussed common border issues and agreed to curb smuggling, trafficking of dugs, narcotics substances, women and children, stopping illegal trespassing and curbing terrorist activities on the frontiers through conducting joint patrolling.
Both sides also decided to ensure peaceful coexistence along the common borders, showing maximum restraints on special situations and resolving any issue through mutual cooperation and discussion between the two neighbouring border guards.
While briefing the local journalists after returning from the meeting to Bangabandhu, the Director General of BGB Major General Aziz Ahmmed said the meeting was held in a very cordial and friendly atmosphere.
Both sides agreed to conduct joint border patrol, further improve relations between the two neighbouring border guards, not to kill any Bangladeshi or Indian citizen on the frontiers and reached to consensus on some other border issues, he elaborated.
Earlier, BSF Inspector General S K Sood received BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmmed with floral wreath when he arrived at Banglabandha zero point at 2:30 pm and took him to the meeting venue, the sources said.
