Dhaka: The Awami League Parliamentary Board (ALPB) on Tuesday decided to sell party nomination papers for the by-election to Naogaon-5 constituency from April 15 to 18.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the ALPB with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair held at her official Ganobhaban residence here tonight.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, AL Deputy Office Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das said that the aspirant candidates will have to collect the nomination forms from party chief's Dhanmondi-3 road office by depositing Taka 10,000.
The last date for submitting nomination forms is April 18, he said.
The interview of the candidates will be held on April 19 at Ganobhaban and the final decision to select the candidate is likely to be made the same day, Mrinal added.
The by-polls to Naogaon-5 constituency will be held on May 25, according to a decision of the Election Commission (EC).
As per the poll schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers is on April 25 while nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 28. Besides, withdrawal of candidacy has been fixed on May 6.
The Naogaon-5 parliamentary seat fall vacant following the death of veteran lawmaker and senior Awami League leader Abdul Jalil on March 6.
