Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said the opposition BNP has closed the door for dialogue on the interim government and there is no scope for discussion on the caretaker government issue now.

"BNP has closed the door of dialogue on interim government through withdrawing the proposal whereas we had taken decision in the parliamentary advisory committee to discuss the issue," the Prime Minister said.

Hasina said the process of holding the general election under a political government should begin in the country for continuation of democracy and preserving of the voting rights of the people.

She urged the BNP to abandon the path of demonstration and come forward to make the parliamentary democracy sustainable and ensure voting rights of the people, reports BSS.

"Next election will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner as it is held universally-accepted democratic system in other countries," she said adding there will be no deviation from this.

The Prime Minister was addressing a discussion marking the historic Six-point Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre here in the afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina said, the BNP cannot say that neutral election is not possible under the Awami League government as the government never interfered to any election to overturn the result.

Rather, the government, out of its firm commitment to democracy, has taken steps in many local government elections for early oath of the BNP winners who secured victory defeating the Awami League candidates, she said.

Over 6450 polls were held and 63,194 candidates were elected in the country over the last four and a half years under the Awami League government. None could raise any question about the fairness of the election, she said.

Criticizing the BNP for withdrawal of the 'adjourned motion' in the parliament for discussion on interim government, the Prime Minister said by doing that BNP has cheated with the nation.

Deputy Leader of Jatiya Sangsad and Awami League Presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury presided over the discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Awami League (AL) central committee.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam, presidium members Sahara Khatun and Nuh Alam Lenin, Joint General Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif, joint secretary and Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Vice-Chancellor of the National University Professor Harun ar Rashid, labour and employment affairs secretary of Awami League Habibur Rahman Siraj and Shimin Hossain Rimi, MP, among others, took part in the discussion.

Central Awami League leader Bahauddin Nasim, President of Awami League Dhaka City unit M A Aziz, general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, central AL leader Aminul Islam also spoke on the occasion while publicity sectary Dr Hasan Mahmud and deputy publicity secretary Asim Kumar Ukil conducted the meeting.

Paying her rich tributes to the martyrs of six-point movement in 1966 and afterwards, the Prime Minister said, the six-point was the blueprint for independence. Bangabandhu inspired the nation for freedom through the six-point demand, she said.

Sheikh Hasina said the Bengali people have achieved everything through immense struggle and sacrifice. It was historically important that Bangabandhu decided to reveal his six-point demand in Lahore and prepared the nation from struggle of freedom.

The Prime Minister said, people of Bangladesh could not know the real history of the nation for 21 years as the defeated force of 1971 captured the power after association of Bangabandhu in 1975.

Sheikh Hasina said, the ghosts of the defeated force of 1971 are still active in the country's politics. They don't want people of the country remain in peace and well-off.

But the people of Bangladesh always thwarted their conspiracy and they foiled the conspiracy of keeping the democracy in abeyance by a section of so-called civil society members backed by military in 2007, she said.

Highlighting the successes of the present government in socio-economic sectors, the Prime Minister said, the present government has recovered the country's economy from fragile situation.

Amidst global economic meltdown, Bangladesh has showed its efficacy in increasing per-capita income, foreign exchange reserve, power generation, build up food security and social safety net, she said.

"In spite of that, they tried their best to harm our reputation," Sheikh Hasina said pointing out the allegation of corruption on Padma Bridge project.

Pointing out the 2013-2014 fiscal year budget, she said, the government has the ability of implementing the big size budget. Since our first budget, our critics are questioning about our capacity to implement the budget.

"But in the last four years we have proved our capacity of implementing the budget and 92 to 93 percent annual development programme (ADP) through efficient management and sincere service," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We should be depended on own income if we don't want to beg to foreign countries. In the last four years, we realized highest revenue without giving pressure on any section of people, she said, adding, our goal is to carry out the country's development and earn more revenue in this purpose."

The Prime Minister said, a section of people want to play duck and drake with the fate of people. The movement of Hefajat is actually the game of BNP and Jamaat, she said, adding that they are now in a deadly game to defaming the religion, mosques and religious faith.

Sheikh Hasina said, while BNP was in power they didn't take any step for development of the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque. "As we have renovated the mosque and its minaret, BNP and Jamaat are out to use the mosque for their political purpose. They even preventing the Imam of the mosque to conduct prayers," she said.

In this regard, the Prime Minister said, the persons who are responsible for destroying holiness of the mosques, demeaning the Islam and gutting copies of the holy Quran, should not be pardoned.
