Dhaka: BCS job seekers enforced a strike on university campuses on Sunday across the country.

The job-seeker students called the strike on Friday to press home their five-point demand, including cancellation of the quota system in all competitive examinations, including those for Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

The four other demands are withdrawal of the cases filed by the Dhaka University authorities and the police against the agitating students, release of those arrested so far, punishment to those who swooped on the peaceful procession of the students and stopping efforts to bar the students from holding their peaceful demonstration against the quota system in recruitment for government jobs.      

Shahin Alam, on behalf of the job seekers under the banner of ‘Medha Mulayan Moncha’, at a press briefing in the city on Saturday urged the students of Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Jagannath University, BUET, Chittagong University, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh Agriculture University, Sylhet Science and Technology University and other educational institutions across the country to make the strike programme a success.

RU students block road for scraping quota system

In Rajshahi, post-graduate students of Rajshahi University (RU) put up a half-an-hour blockade on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway today demanding the abolition of quota system in government jobs.

More than 1,500 students took part in the hold-up from 11.10 am to 11:45 am.

They were chanting slogans against the quota system and demanded that it should be scrapped.
