Dhaka: Hearing on the appeal against the death sentence awarded to Delawar Hossain Sayeede, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and one of the revered Islamic scholars in this subcontinent, is scheduled to be held at the appellate division on May 2.

The six-member bench of the appellate division led by Chief Justice Md Mozammel Hossain fixed the date for the hearings.

Appeal petitions filed by both the prosecution and the defence team will begin simultaneously on that day.

The court has already directed both sides to submit appeal summaries on that day.

The five other judges of the bench are Justice SK Sinha, Justice Abdul Wahab Miah, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Siddiqur Rahman Miah and Justice AHM Shamshuddin Chowdhury.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced Sayeede to death on 28 February for his alleged involvement in crimes against humanity during the liberation war in 1971, what maulana Sayedee and his party Jamaat-e-Islami has fully rejected.
