Dhaka: Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Friday said Bangladesh's economy has been recognized as a 'magic economy' in the world as it maintains average growth defying the global financial recession.

Speaking at a discussion on 'UN and World Financial Management' in the United Nations, Muhith attributed the growth to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government's efficient fiscal management, reduction of discrimination, huge employment and human resource development, said a message received on Friday.

President of the United Nations General Assembly Vuk Jeremic and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Dr AK Abdul Momen presided two sessions of the discussion.

Ministers of different countries and dignitaries were, among others, present on the occasion.

Muhith said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various programmes to build a 'Digital Bangladesh' by 2021 as envisioned by her.

He listed the government's manifold development endeavors in different sectors, including IT, food, and infrastructure and power.

Bangladesh's average annual growth stood at 6.7 per cent at a time when many giant economies witnessed negative growth.
