Dhaka: The ruling Awami League (AL) has decided in principal not to hold any dialogue with the BNP-led opposition parties over modality of the next national general election restoring the caretaker government system as the opposition parties are engaged in politics of destruction and violence.

The opposition parties led by BNP are pushing the country towards instability and chaos to save the war criminals. So AL will not sit for any sort of dialogue with BNP despite national and international pressures mounted on the government for negotiation to settle differences what so ever they have over holding of the next general election. But the AL leaders bluntly said there is no question of any dialogue over reverting to the era of non-party caretaker government system that unleashed reign of terror and tortured politicians. The decision was formally taken at a meeting of the ruling Awami League Central Working Committee meeting presided over by its president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at Ganobhaban on Sunday night. 

In the meeting most senior leaders of the ruling party are of the view that the party leaders and workers should get ready immediately so that the next general election could be held as soon as possible without wasting any time.

The ALCWC also decided to go for reconstituting committees at zilla and upazila levels where the committees had failed to resist or handle the violence unleashed by Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir across the country, including Satkhira, meeting sources confirmed.

The sources also said that Jamaat had developed relations and links with district administration and that’s why the administration had deliberately failed to take measures in advance to snub the pre-meditated Jamaat violence and let the Jamaat-Shibir activists unleash violent activities without facing any resistance.

Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Mohammad Nasim, Motia Chowdhury, legal affairs secretary Abdul Matin Khoshru, organizing secretary Bahauddin Nasim and others delivered speech at the three-hour’s long closed-door meeting after Sheikh Hasina’s opening speech.

Mohammod Nasim described in details the Jamaat-Shibir unleashed violence in Sirajganj, Bogra and Joypurhat districts in the meeting. That time he made an allegation of Jamaat-BNP combine having their men in the district administration and using that nexus the Jamaat-BNP unleashed limitless violence without any hindrance in Sirajganj and Joypurhat. He also called for urgent disciplinary measures against the districts administration there, the meeting sources confirmed. 

Nsim also called for action against the party’s MP, zilla and upazila committees for their negligence in resisting the anti-liberation forces in their respective units.  That time the Prime Minister ordered to reform the zila and upazila committee within a short time in the violence-hit districts.

Nasim also said, “There is no question of holding dialogue with BNP-led opposition parties as they had closed the path of negotiation by unleashing subversive activities and violence across the country with deliberate efforts to destabilise the country for hindering democracy.” 

The meeting sources said AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok and organizing secretary Bahauddin Nasim reported that the finance minister again made a blunder by calling for aiding the tainted Hall-Mark Group to resume operation of its factories. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina then and there stopped them detailing their speech and said, “They are all rubbish.” 

The meeting also discussed about Ganojagaran Moncha’s recent movement and specially recent audacious remarks made by Imran H Sarkar, the convener of Bloggers and Online  Activists Network.

Bahauddin Nasim said how dare the convener of Bloggers and Online Activists’ Network Imran H Sarkar give such audacious speech that goes against the interest of Ganojagaran and its spirit. That time the leaders also demanded to find out who writes the draft of Imran’s speech.

The meeting sources also informed that a decision was also taken to expand 14-party alliance with inclusion of new allies. Some AL senior leaders have been designated to hold discussion with like-minded parties for expansion of the grand alliance with new components and they will propose all pro-liberation political parties and also Islamic groups, except Jamaat-e-Islami, to get into the 14-party alliance.

A committee was also formed in the ALCWC meeting headed by AL Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim for observance of Mujibnagar Dibosh on April 17. A meeting of the newly constituted committee will also be held on Monday afternoon for talking preparatory measures for observing the day in a befitting manner.
