Rajshahi: Paschimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL) is going to start giving household gas-connection in Rajshahi city from Friday, PGCL officials here said.
People of the city have become very happy over the news as they are cherishing the pipeline-based gas for domestic purposes for long.
Tofael Ahmed, in-charge of PGCL, Rajshahi, told BSS that the authorities are all set to bring the Rajshahi city households under gas network through inauguration of its supply Friday.
The first ever pipeline-based gas supply for household use in Rajshahi will start on June 7 instead of June 6 declared earlier.
Tofael Ahmed said the date has been deferred by one day as it coincides with the day of announcement of the national budget.
Dr Hussain Monsur, Chairman of Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (PETROBANGLA), is scheduled to open the gas supplying activities by lighting gas as the chief guest.
As part of the inauguration programme, two Language Veterans of the city Abul Hossain and Mosharraf Hossain Akunji will get the connection in their respective dwelling houses at Seroil and Saheb Bazar initially.
Managing Director of PGCL Ali Hossain says there will no inaugural ceremony marking the start of giving gas connection because of Rajshahi City Corporation election is scheduled to be held on June 15.
Tofael Ahmed said more than 5,300 consumers have, so far,submitted application for gas connection. PGCL officials are examining the gas-pressure on the pipe besides installation of meter and riser. All the applicants will get the connection if their submitted applications along with the attached documents are found valid.
"We can install 14 to 14 risers' everyday. In this way, we will give connection in phases. We will continue the connection process until the government suspends it," he added.
