Dhaka: Awami League general secretary and Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Syed Ashraful Islam today reiterated that the next general election would be held under the government formed by the elected representatives on the basis of the Constitution.
"The election would be held by elected representatives under the present government on the basis of the Constitution. I have told it time and again that Awami league would not accept any election under non-elected people," he said.
Ashraf said this after placing wreaths under the leadership of party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on the occasion of the historic Six-point Day.
Syed Ashraf said the way is still open to solve the issue on the interim government through dialogue but the opposition needed to be cordial for this.
Expressing his optimism that the opposition would place their proposal at the parliament on the government that would supervise the polls, the AL general secretary said, "The discussion has to be started at Jatiya Sangsad (parliament). The issue would be discussed by different teams and then we hope we could be able to bring a unanimous proposal in the Jatiya Sangsad".
