Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami claimed that all the accusations brought against Ghulam Azam are false, fabricated and baseless.
The Jamaat leaders claimed that the 90 years sentence awarded to Ghulam Azam by the International Crimes Tribunal-1 is part of a ‘drama’ staged by the ruling Awami League led government misusing the judiciary. They said the formal reaction will be given later.
Dhaka city unit assistant secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam told journalists while expressing his post-verdict reaction on the war crimes trial of former Jamaat ameer Ghulam Azam and his conviction.
In addition, metropolitan committee nayeb-e-ameer Moulana Abdul Hamid said, “The verdict is a ‘drama’ played by the AL-led government. They gave the verdict convicting the Jamaat leaders to keep them away from politics. No court in the world could prove all these allegations or accusations against Ghulam Azam. We’ve completely reject the verdict outright.”
Shafiqul Islam Masud said, “The tribunal should not have run anymore after the exposure of Skype scandal involving then tribunal chairman Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim. The people rejected the verdict like the death sentence of Delwar Hossain Sayedee.”
He said, “The next course of action will be decided considering the verdict in the next party forum and the party will inform reporters through email.”
