Dhaka: Speakers at a reception ceremony on Friday urged people to rally round Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to bring the grand alliance in power again to complete the ongoing trails of war criminals for building a secular Bangladesh based on the spirit of the Liberation War.

The pro-liberation force will have to be voted to power once again to complete the trials of war criminals, they said, adding that only the government of pro-liberation forces can establish a non-communal Bangladesh based on the spirit of the Liberation War.

Terming the movement of Hefajat-e-Islam is nothing but a conspiracy to thwart the ongoing trials of war criminals, they said BNP-Jamaat in guise of Hefajat-e-Islam has been hatching conspiracy to oust the elected democratic government through resorting to violence and anarchies.

Jatiya Ganotantrik League (JGL) accorded reception to 'Ekushe Padak' recipient Poet Asad Chowdhury, 'Independence Award' recipient Dr Moshjarraf Hossain, Israfil Alam, MP, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Labour and Employment Ministry and writer of the book 'Parliament Member and Bangladesh: State-Politics, Government and Constitution and Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, acting Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), journalist, freedom fighter and writer of the book 'Sheikh Hasina's Unnayan (Development Activities of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina).'

Former Minister and Presidium Member of Awami League Satish Chandra Roy was present at the programme as chief guest. The programme was addressed, among others, by Poet Asad Chowdhury, wife of Dr Mosharraf Hosain and President of Mahila Awami League Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf MP, Acting Chief Editor of BSS Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Engineer Modasser Hossain, advocate Abul Kalam Azad and Ranjan Roy.

President of Bangladesh Shishu-Kishore Foundation Atiqur Rahman presided over the programme which was conducted by JGL President M A Jalil. Satish Chandra Roy and JGL President M A Jalil handed over crest to those who were given reception.

In his speech, Satish Chandra Roy blasted BNP-Jamaat for resorting to violence across country and said BNP-Jamaat is carrying out such activities in the guise of Hefajat-e-Islam to topple the government.

Poet Asad Chowdhury termed the mass protests of young generation at Shahbag as milestone and said it would encourage people to build a non-communal Bangladesh free from war criminals. He bitterly criticized the fundamentalist forces for using Madrasah students in the name saving Islam and said the fundamentalist forces are trying to protect war criminals.

Begum Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf said freedom fighter and adviser to Mujibnagar government on health affairs Dr Mosharraf Hossain had tried to reorganize Awami League when politics was banned after killing of Bangabandhu in 1975.

Acting Editor of BSS Azizul Islam Bhuiyan said truth has gradually been waned from the society and urged all to raise voice against yellow journalism. "We would have been trapped into the mendacity that had been grabbed the society through the killing of Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family if Sheikh Hasina's government had not been formed after 1996," he added.
