Dhaka: A three-day ‘National Environment Olympiad 2013’ is going to start at Dhaka University (DU) from May 31 with the theme “Think.Eat.Save (Reduce Your Foodprint).”
The teachers of Geography and Environmental Science Deaprtment said this at a press conference at the department’s conference room on Wednesday.
Chairman of the department Abdur Rab, Professor Hafiza Khatun and Professor Touhida Rashid among others were present there.
Around 300 students from different school, college and university of the country will participate in the Olympiad.
The organizer said the programme is arranged to mark World Environment Day on June 5 and to increase people’s awareness regarding environment.
The inaugural programme of the Olympiad will be held on May 31 at the university’s Nabab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. Environmental Photography exhibition, article presentation and 50 power point presentation competition will be held at the Olympiad.
Dean of Earth and Environmental Science department, SS Maksud will preside over the inaugural programme.
Deputy vice-chancellor professor Nasrin Ahmed will present there as a chief guest while Asiatic Society Chairman Nazrul Islam as special guest. Professor Hafiza Khatun will present the main article.
In addition, persons having immense contribution in environmental issue will be awarded besides delivering certificates, awards and books among the competitors.
The closing ceremony will be held on June 2. Food and Disaster management Minister Dr. Md. Abdur Razzak will be preset at the closing day as a chief guest. The vice chancellor of the university Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique will deliver crests and certificates to the winners of the Olympiad.
The registration is going on at the Geography and Environment Science department’s office. Anyone from any department of any school, college and university can register their name in the Olympiad.
