Jessore: Students of Jessore Science and Technology University (JSTU) on Saturday boycotted classes and demonstrated in front of the administrative building demanding reduction of their tuition and semester fees.

The students announced that they will continue their class and examination boycott programme until June 18.

Meanwhile, the university authority has called a meeting of regent board on June 10 in the face of students’ agitation.

The students alleged that the authorities increase admission fee, semester fee and other charges every year. Tk 9220 was realized as admission fee in 2008-9, Tk 10,700 in 2009-10, Tk 11,650 in 2019-11, Tk 12250 in 2011-12 and Tk 13,900 in 2012-13 academic year.

The students started movement on May 21 demanding reduction of tuition and semester fees but suspended their programme on the following day on assurance of Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdus Sattar to place their demand at regent board’s meeting. But they resumed their movement on Saturday.

VC Dr Abdus Sattar said steps will be taken over their demands as per the decision of the regent board meeting. There is no need of any movement for this, he said.
