Dhaka: A team of elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday detained former deputy general manger (DGM) of Sonali Bank Ltd Azizur Rahman on charge of his alleged involvement in the country’s biggest-ever loan scandal.
“Azizur Rahman was picked up from the city’s Ramna area at about 8:45pm and he is now in the custody of RAB-3,” said a RAB official.
Earlier, on October 7, RAB personnel arrested Hall-Mark Group Managing Director Tanvir Mahmud and its General Manager Tushar Ahmed from the city’s Mirpur-10 area.
The duo (Tanvir and Tushar) were arrested from a house at Mirpur 10 with a pistol and four bullets.
The following day, a case was filed against Tanvir Mahmud on charges of illegally possessing arms and bullets.
Deputy Assistant Director of Rapid Action Battalion-4 Liakat Hossain filed the case with Pallabi Police Station.
On the same day, a court placed Tanvir Mahmud on a 29-day remand in four cases filed in connection with the Sonali Bank loan scam and possessing unauthorised arms.
The court, however, placed Hallmark Group general manager Tushar Ahmed on a 24-day remand in three cases.
Tanvir was remanded for 24 days in three cases filed earlier while on five days in the arms case.
