Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon all, including the party leaders and workers, to remain alert about using mosques, madrasas and their students in destructive activities by the anti-liberation forces as she feared that they can unleash violent act again in the country.

"You have to remain alert and make contact with the authorities of mosques and madrasas so that the anti-liberation forces cannot destroy the sanctity of the holy places like mosques and madrasas by using those and their students in subversive acts again," she said referring to Fatikchhari mayhem, reports BSS.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League chief, said this in her introductory speech at a view-exchange meeting with grassroots leaders and workers of Patuakhali district unit of the party at her official Ganobhaban residence here in the morning.

The Prime Minister said those who are unleashing violent act across the country are the cohorts of the anti-liberation forces and they want to install the anti-liberation forces in power again.

"They don't believe in the country's independence and sovereignty. They do not know creating anything, they can only know committing destruction," she said.

AL Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Kazi Jafarullah, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister For Religious Affairs Advocate Shahjahan Mia, State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman, AL Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and former chief whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Abul Hasnat Abdullah were present, among others.

AL organizing secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim conducted the view-exchange meeting which has been convened as part of a series of view exchange meetings with the grassroots-level leaders and workers initiated by the ruling Awami League at the end of the year 2011.

The office-bearers of Patuakhali district unit AL, national committee members, lawmakers of the party, administrator of Patuakhali District Council, presidents and general secretaries of upazila, thana, union and municipal units and upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen of the party, mayors and councillors of municipalities, chairmen of the union councils and presidents and general secretaries of the associate and like-minded bodies of the Awami League district unit were also present at the meeting.

Blasting the opposition BNP and Jamaat-Shibir for their subversive act in the country in the name of hartal, Sheikh Hasina said they are unleashing the anti-people activities in the country to protect the war criminals.

They have become such a mad that they are torching and vandalizing public and private vehicles and killing their drivers dragging out of the steering seat and uprooting and displacing rail lines, she said.

"They are killing innocent people by making brutal attacks on processions and it could be compared with the barbaric act of the Pakistani occupation forces," she said.

The Prime Minister said their vengeance has reached to such a level that they do not hesitate to release the fishplates of rail tracks and they don't think that the subversive act may kill thousands of rail passengers.

She wondered that how a political party which was in power in the past could commit such subversive act.

Expressing apprehension that the BNP-Jamaat-Shibir terrorists could unleash violent act again, the Prime Minister urged the countrymen to remain watchful about their subversive act.

"You will have to remain alert so that they cannot play ducks and drakes with the fate of the people," she said.

She said those who did nothing for the people when they were in power now are doing anti-people activities in the name of hartal. "They did nothing for the people as they were engaged themselves in only terrorism, corruption and plundering," she said.

Reiterating her firm commitment to hold the trial of war criminals, Sheikh Hasina said opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia would not be able to protect the 1971 culprits despite the subversive acts committed by BNP and Jamaat-Shibir elements.

"Whatever killing and destruction you commit, you cannot save the war criminals. Their trial must be held to free the country from 42 years' stigma," she asserted.

The Prime Minister again stressed the need for continuation of democratic trend as she said that no country could achieve its desired goal without democracy. "Transparency and accountability are a must for ensuring overall development," she said.

Terming Awami League as a party of the people, she said when Awami League comes to power, the people witness massive development. On the other hand, she said, when BNP goes to power, the people get only terrorism, militancy and corruption.

Sheikh Hasina illustrated her government's tremendous successes in the fields of agriculture, education, health, information technology, food security, women empowerment and maritime victory.

She said her government has made massive development for the country's southern region which was neglected for a long time.

"We have taken steps to restore lost glory of the southern region as a granary," she said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted her government measures for development of Kuakata as a tourist place, setting up the country's third seaport and shipbuilding industry in Patuakhali as well as dredging of the rivers and innovation of salinity-tolerant crops.

She urged the party leaders and workers to project the government successes before the people side by side with strengthening the organizations at the grassroots level.
