Chandpur: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni urged the opposition parties not to misuse the religious sentiment of people for their petty political purposes.
“Bangladesh is a democratic country. The people do not want any hindrance to democracy. So don’t try to get political advantage by misusing religion hampering the democratic values.”
She came up with the call in a prize giving ceremony at Chandpur Government Women’s College on Friday.
Dr Dipu Moni said, “We will stand against them who want to keep women in the corner of houses by issuing religious edicts. You all have to remain alert as a vested quarter has been trying to create hurdles against freedom of women and their rights.”
The programme was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner Ismail Hossain, Police Super Amir Zafar and Principal of the college Sadequr Rahman.
