Dhaka: At least nine people were killed in two road accidents in Sirajganj and Tangail on Tuesday.
Five people were killed and 10 others injured early Tuesday in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Khalupara area on the Natore-Bonpara highway under Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district.
The deceased were identified as Mamun, 18, son of Jalal, Abdur Rahman, 22, son of Gudar Ali, Anwarul, 45, son of Muajjem, Kabirul, 28, son of Ainal and Tuhin, 18, son of Ainuddin of Tarapur and Shyampur village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
Police said the accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound bus from Chapainawabganj collided head on with the truck in the area around 2.30 am and the bus fell into roadside ditch, leaving the five bus passengers dead on the spot and wounding 10 others.
The injured were sent to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to the local hospital morgue.
In Tangail, four people were killed as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Dhanbari upazila Tuesday noon.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Four bodies were recovered from the spot.
Death toll may rise from the accident that took place at about 1:00pm.
Source of Dhanbari police station sources’ confirmed it the news. The salvage operation is continuing till 1:30pm.
