Chittagong: Elderly Buddhist leader and former President of Bangladesh Buddhist Association Hemendra Lal Barua died of old age complications at a city clinic here Monday night. He was 94.
A former employee of Bangladesh Railway, Eastern Zone, Barua left behind three sons, five daughters host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death, family sources said.
Popularly known as H L Barua, made significant contribution toward social reformation and welfare of Buddhist community in addition to development of Nandankanon Buddhist Monastery.
His body was kept at city's NandanKanon Buddhist Temple for the last respect.
After a condolence meeting, the body will be brought to his native village Fatenagar of Chandanaish upazila of the district on Monday night and cremation on Wednesday afternoon.
