Rangpur: Speakers at a prize-giving ceremony here on Tuesday afternoon stressed for educating the primary school students on environment, climate change and natural disasters to create mass awareness among them on these issues.

They asked the primary school teachers for disseminating adequate information among students on adverse impacts of environmental degradation, climate change and the ways-out to save the save planet from unthinkable catastrophes in future.

Social Development Foundation (SDF) arranged the ceremony at its regional office to distribute prizes among winners of a drawing competition, organised for the primary school students in observance of the World Environment Day 2013.

Students form different government primacy schools from five districts in greater Rangpur participated in the drawing competitions.

Divisional Deputy Director of the Directorate of Primary Education Mohiuddin Talukder attended the discussion and distributed prizes among the winner as the chief guest. With Regional Project Director of SDF Golam Faruhk in the chair, its senior official Mizanur Rahman addressed as the special guest.

A large number of primary school teachers, students and guardians, environmental activists, public representatives, professionals, civil society members, socio-cultural activists and elite were present.

The speakers said environmental degradation and adverse climate change impacts have created severe threat to civilization and urged all for creating awareness among school students on these issues to improve the situation for saving the planet.
