Dhaka: Awami League presidium member and former Home Minister Mohammad Nasim today categorically said that the trial of the war criminals would certainly be completed braving all obstructions including threats of the opposition BNP.

"BNP was the only political party that did not hail the verdict in the war crimes trial. At this I was astonished but not surprised. They are worse than the killers of 1971," he said adding: It's a matter of shame that Begum Khaleda Zia being the wife of a freedom fighter could not hail the people after the Monday's verdict delivered in the war crimes trial.

Nasim came up with this remark while speaking as the chief guest at the extended meeting of the Dhaka City Awami League held at its Bangabandhu Avenue office in the city.

The senior Awami League leader said the leaders of BNP remained mum over the verdict and they (BNP leaders) also were silent when the verdict in the Bangabandhu Killing Case was delivered.

"The leaders of the BNP have seemingly run short of words following the Monday's verdict. They are now unable to use words for and against Golam Azam and the other war criminals. But, the verdict in the war crimes trial shall be delivered one after another," Nasim said.

"People of the country will give a befitting reply to BNP's silence in the next national polls," the senior Awami League leader said adding: "The final verdict will come in the elections of 2014. People will give their mandate again in favour the Awami League-led government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."

Acting president of Dhaka City Awami League MA Aziz chaired the meeting, also addressed, among others, by general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), state minister for law Advocate Quamrul Islam, joint secretaries Awlad Hossain and Haji Mohammad Selim and organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad.
