Khulna: An all round show by Rangpur Riders enabled them to record comfortable six wickets victory over Chittagong Kings in the Prime Bank Bangladesh Premier League T20 at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Tuesday.
This was the maiden victory for Rangpur after losing to Dhaka Gladiators by 35 runs in their opening match in Dhaka.
Thanks to the Rangpur Riders bowlers for their brilliant bowling that helped them get the deserving victory.
Chasing Chittagong's moderate 132 runs, Rangpur Riders opener Shamsur Rahman polish half century and all rounder Nasir Hossain unconquered knock reached home making 135 runs with three balls in hand, after restricted the Chittagong Kings to a moderate total of 132 for 5.
The duo contributed useful 68 runs for the fourth wicket stand, after Rangpur lost their three top orders batsman.
Shamsur played an impressive innings coring 52 runs off 45 balls hitting two boundaries and two towering over boundaries before he was clean bowled by medium pacer Jacob Oram.
Later Nasir completed the chase with English batsman Dimitri Mascarenhas to remain unbeaten on 45 and 6 runs respectively.
Nasir smashed five boundaries and one over boundary during his 33-ball stay on the crease. He was later to be adjudged the player of the match. Jacob Oram was the pick among the Chittagong bowlers taking two wickets for 21 runs. He was well supported by Mahmudullah and Shaun Tait, who both took one wickets each.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Chittagong Kings rode on, Brendan Taylor's superb unbeaten half century managed to score 132 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Brendan Taylor played a brilliant innings of 65 off 51-ball knocks that contained seven boundaries and two over boundaries while skipper Mahmudullah supported him with useful run-a-ball 34 run cracking seven boundaries and two over boundaries, after Chittagong lost their first three batsmen at 21 runs in the score board.
Kevin O'Brien, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Abdur Razzak and Fidel Edwards bagged one wicket apiece.
Wednesday's matches: Barisal Burners vs Rangpur Riders (2 pm); Khulna Royal Bengals vs Sylhet Royals (6 pm), both at the same venue.
