Dhaka: Home Minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said Tuesday they would bring back Abul Kalam Azad alias Bachchu Razakar from abroad to execute the death sentence verdict for committing war crimes during the country's Liberation War in 1971.

"We have information regarding whereabouts of former Jamaat leader Bachchu Razakar," he said while replying to a query after coming out from an inaugural ceremony of Police Week-2013.

Among others, State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Home Secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed and Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmud Khandker spoke on the occasion.

"Absconding Bachchu Razakar is now hiding in a country. He would be brought back through proper communication with the concerned country to execute the death sentence," MK Alamgir said without mentioning the name of the country.

"If necessary, we will seek help from the Interpol to bring him (Bachchu Razakar) back," he said.

International Crimes Tribunal-2 awarded death sentence to Bachchu Razakar on January 21.

Replying to another query, Alamgir also said that police medals are given on the basis of professional excellence and mentality to provide service to the people, not on political consideration.

The minister stressed the need for imparting police with modern training to make the force capable of fighting high-tech crimes such as cyber crimes.
