Dhaka: The bodies of 13 Bangladeshi workers who were burnt alive in a devastating fire in Bahrain on January 11 arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday evening.

A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the bodies of the Bangladeshi fire victims landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 6:35pm, said Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan from the airport.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain is also at the airport to receive the bodies.

After completing all necessary formalities, the bodies will be handed over to their respective families, the secretary said.

The minister will also give Tk 35,000 to each of the victims’ families for burial of the each body. Each family will later be given Tk 2 lakh as compensation.

On January 11, some 13 Bangladeshi nationals were burnt to death in a fire that raged through a three-storey building used as a bachelor’s camp in Manama of Bahrain.

The victims were identified as Nazir Ahmed, son of Sagir Ahmed of Boalkhali upazila of Chittagong; Jasim, son of Abu Naser Miah; Saiful Islam and Swapan, sons of Shahid Miah; Md Anwar, son of Abul Bashar of Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria; Mahbub Alam, son of Rashid Ahmed and Jamal, son Abdul Aziz, at Patia in Chittagong; Shadat and Titu Mia, sons of Alam at Kachua of Chandpur; Mohammad Osman Gani, son of Abdur Rahim of Sonaimuri of Noakhali; Jaru Mia, son of Chand Mia of Nabinagar Brahmanbaria, Mofizul Islam, son of Joynal Abedin of Boro Banisha, Chouara of Comilla sadar (Dakshin), and Shahin Khan, son of Abdus Sattar Khan of Matlab in Chandpur.
