Dhaka: Dhaka stock finished the week lower on Thursday after advancing substantially in four consecutive trading sessions from Sunday.
The DSE general index, which reached 9-month high at 4770.48 on Wednesday, lost some edge to profit-taking selling to close the week 86.01 points or 1.80 percent lower at 4648.47. The index earlier on September 25, 2012 soared to 4774.65 before it started falling downhill on persistent market volatility.
DGEN and the rest two indices of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) advanced significantly in the four out of five trading sessions on active institutional and individual buying. Like the DGEN, DSEX Index lost 82.52 points or 1.89 percent to end the week at 4262.93 when the DS30 ended 23.29 points or 1.41 percent lower at 1620.17.
The daily turnover, which reached Taka 1294.61 crore on Tuesday and came down to Taka 1040.10 crore the following day, decreased further to Taka 730.42 crore on Thursday's buyers' market.
Issues traded incur loss across the board as sellers kept pressure since the beginning of the trading session, which was cut short to 2pm for Ramadan. Only 47 issues, mostly from pharmaceuticals, textile and mutual fund gained on the day when 222 suffered loss and 14 remained unchanged.
