Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Friday said there is no alternative to education for building a corruption and poverty-free country.

The present government made a time-befitting education policy on the basis of opinions of all and working with the highest priority to implement this policy, he said speaking as the chief guest at a function at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

The education minister said he has no dissatisfaction over the proposed allocation for education in the budget for 2013-14.

However, proper utilization of the allocation is a big challenge, he added.

The DRU organized the function to award stipends to the wards of its members who succeeded in Primary School Certificate (PSC) and Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations.

The education minister said the PSC and JSC examination would enhance confidence of the students and help dispel their exam phobia.

Organised with the assistance of Dhaka Stock Exchange, the function was presided over by DRU President M Shahed Chowdhury.

Dhaka Stock Exchange President M Raqibur Rahman, daily Samokal Executive Editor Mostafiz Shahi and Everest Conqueror Musa Ibrahim also spoke on the occasion, among others.
