Dhaka: State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki on Sunday said Hefazat-e-Islam Amir Allama Ahmed Shofi will be brought under trial for his derogatory remarks against women, their freedom, education and employment.
Terming Allama Shofi as mentally sick and perverted, the minister said legal actions would be taken soon against him for his derogatory and vulgar remarks on women.
She added: “He (Shofi) not only slurred women but also men by terming men as utterly vulgar.”
She said, “Bibi Khadija was the first woman who adopted Islam. Bibi Ayesha even went to a war with Prophet Haszat Mohammad (SM).”
The state minister also added: “Islam has granted highest honour and freedom for women. Bibi Khadija was engaged in business. Islam also put emphasis on women education.”
She also urged all conscious people, including womenfolk, to raise their voice in protest against the remarks made by Allama Shofi.
Chumki added: “Shofi insulted Islam by making such perverted remarks. We talked about the issue in the parliament and urged the government for necessary action.”
She also said, “The ministry will take legal steps against the derogatory remarks as per the constitution.”
