The dawn-to-dusk road and waterway blockade, called by Democratic Youth Forum (DYF), was observed in two hill districts on Sunday over several demands, including cancellation of the 15th amendment to the constitution.

DYF, a front organisation of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), enforced the blockade, demanding cancellation of the 15th amendment to the constitution, an end to land grabbing in the name of reserve forest in Rangamati and conspiracy to evict 50 ethnic families from Mrolapru Karbari Para under Ramrarh upazila of Khagrachhari to settle Banglalees.

No long distant buses either left or entered the Rangamati in the morning cutting the communication with other districts.

Additional forces of the law enforcing agencies have been deployed to avert any untoward incident.

Earlier leaders of the organisation announced the blockade programme at a party meeting held in Khagrachhari town on Thursday.

Leaders and activists of DYF held a protest rally Changhi Square in Khagrachhari town and then took out a procession in support of the blockade programme on Saturday afternoon.

They blamed the three lawmaker of Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban districts for their silent role during the 15th amendment to the constitution and set fire to their effigies

They urged all regional political parties to stay united to protect the fundamental rights of the hill people.

Central President of DYF Natun Kumar Chakma, its General Secretary Mykle Chakma, central president of Hill Women’s Federation Kanika Dewan and Central President of Pahari Chhatra Parishad Thuika Shing Marma also attended the meeting.
