Teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday decided to send a letter to the Chancellor of the university and President Abdul Hamid to inform him about their demand for the resignation of its Vice Chancellor.

The decision came at a general meeting of JU Teachers’ Association (Juta) on the campus.

The teachers also agreed to sit in a dialogue to resolve the crisis prevailing in the university over the resignation of the VC. “We’ve decided to sit in a dialogue with the ex-Vice Chancellors or any third party to be assigned by the Chancellor,” said Juta president Prof Ajit Kumar.

He, however, said, “We’ll continue our ongoing siege to the administrative building until VC Prof Dr Anwar Hossain resigns.”

The teachers have been observing the siege programme since June 19 declaring the VC persona non grata on the campus for what they said taking inadequate punitive measures against JU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Rajib Ahmed Russell for assaulting a teacher.

Russell allegedly assaulted Nurul Haque, a lecturer of Economics department and syndicate member, on April 6.

Meanwhile, classes and examinations in all departments were held on Monday.
