Dhaka: Leaders and workers of the ruling Awami League and its associate bodies as well as like-minded organisations today brought out anti-hartal marches in the city.

Since early in the morning, Awami League, its associate and like-minded bodies brought out sporadic processions from different city wards towards party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue denouncing the countrywide shutdown enforced by Jamaat-Shibir clique.

At about 10 in the morning, several anti-hartal marches taken out in Gulistan Square, Golap Shah Mazar, Nur Hossain Square, Paltan intersection and Syed Nazrul Islam Sarani and their adjoining streets.

The marchers under the banners of Awami Juba League, Swechchhasebak League, Jatiya Sramik League, Chhatra League, Awami Muktijoddha League, Sammilito Awami Samarthak League, BRTC Sramik Karmachari League and other bodies brought out small sporadic processions and converged in front of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.

Earlier at 8-45 am, Pallabi Thana Juba League took out an anti- hartal march towards party central office. The marchers paraded Topkhana Road in front of the National Press Club, Paltan intersection, Nur Hossain Square and joined the anti-hartal demonstrators at Bangabandhu Avenue.

Almost at the same time, another march of Sammilito Awami Samarthak Jote headed towards the central office of Awami League. Awami Juba League, its Dhaka City South and North units also took out anti-hartal marches in the central part of the city also in the morning.

Dhaka City South and North units of Awami Swechchhasebak League also brought out separate processions between 10 am and 10.30 am while leaders and workers of Jatiya Sramik League marched towards Bangabandhu Avenue protesting against the hartal called by the Jamaat-Shibir Clique.

Earlier, a motorcycle procession of Motijheel Thana Chhatra League reached party central office to join the anti-hartal demonstrations there. The marchers chanted various slogans against an action programme like hartal enforced by the anti- liberation forces without any valid demand other than to save the war criminals.

Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, acting president of Dhaka City AL MA Aziz, general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), state minister for law Advocate Quamrul Islam, Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin MP, Awami Juba League chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury, general secretary Harun-ar-Rashid, Swechchhasebak League president Advocate Mollah Md Abu Kawsar, general secretary Pankaj Debnath and leaders of other associate bodies of Awami League were present during the anti-hartal demonstrations.
