Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned not to produce any person before the media, if detained on suspicion.
A two-judge bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Farid Ahmed issued the order granting a prayer and asked to submit a report within 24 hours complying the order.
The court also issued a rule on the persons concerned asking them to reply in two weeks why directives should not be issued on the members of the law enforcing agencies to maintain discipline while performing their duties by keeping them within their professional jurisdictions and why bar would not be imposed on them in producing any detained person before the media and compelling to speak to the press.
Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner were made respondents in the petition.
An apprentice lawyer of the Supreme Court Akil-uz-Zaman filed the petition and Advocate AKM Safiuddin moved it while Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Amit Talukder appeared for the State.
