Rajshahi: A Bangladeshi farmer was killed after allegedly being tortured by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Bagha-Charghat frontier in the district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Babar Ali, 35, son of Haran Ali, of Lalpur upazila in Natore.
According to the sources concerned, Babar Ali went to visit a relative's house in India Tuesday afternoon through Bagha-Charghat border. BSF personnel of Babnabaj camp chased him when he was returning home in the evening.
During the time, he jumped into the Padma river but BSF men followed him with a speedboat. At one stage, they hit Babar with the boat, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later, BSF recovered the body and sent it to a Raninagar hospital for autopsy.
On information, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sent a letter to BSF protesting the killing and asked them to send back the body, BOP Commander of BGB Charghat Subeder Hossain Ali said. He added that the body was set to be repatriated on Wednesday afternoon.
